Expected values use calibrated EV — pulls weighted so recent ones count for more — after each pack's own buyback. That is the same basis as every pack headline and verdict. The rip simulator on a pack page can also average over all time, which gives a different and equally real answer whenever a pool has moved. Any single session can land anywhere on the distribution.
